Victims’ families give mixed reactions

Family members of the seven victims expressed mixed reactions on the verdict.

Selina Akter Beauty, wife of Nazrul, expressed satisfaction and hoped that the verdict would be carried out without much delay. "I hope the High Court upholds the verdict, if an appeal is filed," she said. Replying to a question about some of Noor’s associates whom she accused in her case, Beauty said: "I don’t know why the police did not accuse them in the charge-sheet."
Beauty’s father, Shahidul Islam, alias Shahid Chairman, said: "I am partially satisfied with the verdict. We filed a case against Haji Yeasin Ali, Siddirganj thana AL secretary, Ashiqur Rahman Ashik, Aminul Islam Razu and others as they helped the killers in the murder and aided their escape. Narayanganj AL leader and lawmaker Shamim Osman and city AL leader advocate Khokon Shaha influenced the investigators not to include their names in the charge-sheet." Dr Susmita Sarkar, Chandan Sarkar’s daughter, said she is grateful to the court and the lawyers who fought to give them justice. "I hope the verdict will be executed soon," she added.
Abdul Wahab, father of Ibrahim, the driver of the slain lawyer Chandan Sarker, said he was happy with the verdict.
Hanufa Begum, wife of Ibrahim, said: "I'm happy with the verdict. I want the fugitives to be arrested soon."
