AL expels MP Rana, 3 brothers

The Tangail district unit of Awami League (AL) has expelled Tangail-3 (Ghatail) member of parliament (MP) Amanur Rahman Khan Rana and his three brothers from the party – all charge-sheeted accused in AL leader and freedom fighter Farook Ahmed murder case.

The others are former mayor of Tangail municipality and member of the Tangail city AL Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, AL leader Zahidur Rahman Khan Kakon and member of the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Saniat Khan Bappa.
Joaherul Islam, the secretary of the Tangail district unit of the AL, said an emergency meeting of the Tangail district AL was held at the district  
council auditorium yesterday morning. The meeting was presided over by the president of the Tangail district unit and newly elected chairman of the Tangail district council, Fazlur Rahman Khan Farook. The meeting adopted a resolution to expel the four brothers, who have been charge-sheeted in the case related to the murder of AL leader and freedom fighter Farook Ahmed.

The meeting requested the central AL to expel them as well.
MP Rahman Khan Rana is currently in Kashimpur Central Jail. His three brothers are absconding.
A joyous procession was brought out in Tangail town and Ghatail municipal area, hailing the expulsion of the MP and his three brothers.
Sources in Tangail police said veteran freedom fighter and influential district AL leader Farook Ahmed was murdered on January 18, 2013. The case was handed over to the Detective Branch (DB) of the police. Police arrested accused Aminul Islam Raja and Mohammad Ali. Following remand, Aminul Islam Raja was produced before the court. Both of them confessed and narrated how Farook Ahmed was murdered. 
They disclosed the names of the four brothers— influential members of the Khan family—who were involved in the killing.
