JS body for action against drug abusers
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Public Assurance on Sunday recommended for taking action against drug abusers aimed at saving the young generation from the curse of addiction.
The recommendation came at the 28th meeting of the committee held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with chairman of the committee Kazi Keramat Ali in the chair, said a press release. The meeting also recommended for taking necessary legal action against government employees if they are found involvement with drug trafficking. The committee expressed concern over the addiction to drug by the younger generation and increase of drug trafficking. Committee members Whip M Shahiduzzaman Sarkar, M Abdul Majid Khan, MP, and Mir Mustaq Ahmed Robi, MP attended the meeting.
ZP members to take oath tomorrow
The oath taking ceremony of the newly elected Zila Parishad (ZP) members will be held at Osmani Memorial auditorium in the capital on January 18.
Local Government Division of the Local Government Rural Development (LGRD) Ministry will arrange the function while minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain will administer the oath, said an official release. The members of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions will take oath at 9.30 am while members of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna and Barisal divisions will take oath at 11.30 am.
Heroin seized in Rajshahi
Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday seized two kilograms of heroin from a Char area under Godagari Upazila of the district.
Sources said, on a tip-off, a patrol team of the paramilitary force conducted a raid at the area around 7.30 am and seized 20 packets containing two kilograms of the contraband item. However, none could be arrested in this connection as the smugglers fled away leaving behind the drugs sensing the presence of BGB there. Commanding Officer of 1 BGB Battalion Lt Col Sohel Uddin Pathan said,a case was recorded with Godagari Police Station in this connection.
Russian artist’s solo exhibition begins in capital today
A four-day painting exhibition titled 'Ladies Come Flying' by Russian artist Sergey Radiuk will begin at Gallery Cosmos in the capital's Mohakhali area today, reports
Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor will inaugurate the exhibition as the chief guest while Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Ignatov will be present as special guest, said a press release. Tehmina Enayet, Director of Gallery Cosmos, will preside over the ceremony. A total of 28 paintings will be displayed at the exhibition which will remain open for public from 12pm to 8 pm daily on January 17-20. Sergey Radiuk studied in Minsk College of Art but calls Vologda his creative motherland Sergey Radiuk is the founder and head of 'Sunny Square' painting school in Moscow and on of the initiators of international artistic organisation 'Sunny Square'.
