A court here yesterday granted bail to actor and model Kalyan Corraya in a case filed in connection with a road accident that left chief photojournalist of vernacular daily the Prothom Alo Zia Islam injured, reports UNB.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Kaiserul Islam passed the order when sub-inspector of Kalabagan Police Station M Omar Faruq Khan, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the progress report before the court.
Earlier on Sunday, another court here refrained from hearing the bail petition of the actor as the IO could not produce the progress report of his interrogation at the jail gate before the court. The court had said the hearing would be held after submission of the progress report.
On January 11, a court asked police to interrogate Kalyan Corraya at the jail gate in the case.
Photojournalist Zia Islam suffered injuries as a speedy private car hit his motorcycle from behind in front of Bashundhara City Shopping Mall in Panthapath area of the capital around 11:30pm on January 9. Zia was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and later shifted to Apollo Hospital. He was finally airlifted to Singapore for better treatment.
A team of Kalabagan Police Station arrested Kalyan from Manipuripara of the capital on Tuesday in connection with the incident. Prothom Alo security manager Major (retd) Sajjadul Kabir filed a case against Kalyan with Kalabagan Police Station on the same day.
