Certification ceremony of the Bone Marrow Transplant Nurses held in Dhaka

The Certification Ceremony for the 3rd batch of the Enhanced Specialized Nurse Training Program (ESNTP) has been celebrated on 9 January 2017 at the Gulshan Club, Dhaka.
Prof. Dr. Abul Kalam Azad, Director General, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) attended the programme as chief guest and A K Shamsuddin Khan, Chairman, A K Khan Healthcare Trust (AKKHT) chaired the meet.

Bone Marrow Transplant Programme
The Bone Marrow Transplant treatment system has been launched in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Dhaka Medical College & Hospital and the A K Khan Healthcare Trust (AKKHT). The A K Khan Healthcare Trust is immensely serving at the training sector. Already, 73 nurses have been graduated under this training programme.
In partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital and Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Dhaka Medical College & Hospital, and A K Khan Healthcare Trust (AKKHT) has launched Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) Nursing and Solid Oncology Nursing in Dhaka Medical College & Hospital with total of 46 Nurses.  

At the outset year, work started with Bone Marrow Transplantation training program at DMCH with 20 nurses for one year. After the successful completion of the training program, Bone Marrow Transplantation has been done in Bangladesh for the First Time. A historical landmark achieved with the introduction of first Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) at Dhaka Medical College & Hospital (DMCH) on 2014 in the collaboration with A K Khan Healthcare Trust (AKKHT), Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), USA and overall with the help of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MHFW) of Bangladesh.  

At the second year, AKKHT team along with MGH, DMCH Minister of Health started providing training on Oncology, Solid Tumor for 28 nurses.
Third year training program on “Leukemia, Thalassemia and Bone Marrow Transplant” have recently completed with 27 nurses in collaboration with MGH, DMCH and AKKHT.

After receiving the training program, now the nurses are:
more active and energetic in their daily practices
increase their knowledge level about the concern subject.
able to identify the complications immediately and act promptly.
help doctor round more confidently.
able to do case presentation in more systematic way.
do not feel shy for the confusion and queries to ask to the senior or physician during patient care.
maintaining patient documentation more accurately.
able to establish good relationship between patient, family member and health workers.
interested to gather more information about their patients’ conditions, complications and management.
