BCB names preliminary squad for India, SL tours

Rookie batsman Mehedi Maruf along with Abdul Majid got their maiden call-ups from the national side for the upcoming tours of India and Sri Lanka. 

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced a 30-member preliminary squad for the away tours yesterday.  
Tigers will next tour in India for one-off Test in the first week of February after the completion of their year’s starting tour in New Zealand. The former is slated to fly for India on February 1. Before stepping into Test to be commenced from February 9, they will play a three-dayer practice match against India XI on February 3.  
And then they will travel to Sri Lanka for a full series, comprising of two Tests as many as T20Is and three ODIs in March. Mehedi Maruf, who impressed with his cherry in the concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for the new champions Dhaka Dynamites, toured in Australia-New Zealand with 22-member preliminary squad as a part of BCB’s development programme.  
The 28-year-old batsman scored 347-the sixth highest of the BPL-4 just after Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah Riyad, Sabbir Rahman, Kumar Sangakkara and Mohammad Shahzad.
  Abdul Majid on the other hand performed outstandingly in the last Dhaka Premier League (DPL), where he scored the third highest of 706 with two centuries and five fifties after Rokibul Hasan (719) and Tamim Iqbal (714).
Prior to the outset of the two-match Test series against England at home yard, Majid got chance to play in a two-dayer practice match against England, where he justified his selection by smashing 106-run innings for BCB XI. All-rounder Nasir Hossain came back in the fold by playing better cricket in domestic circuit. Hossain struck a double century for the first time in his career in the concluded National Cricket League (NCL). 
Pacers Mohammad Shahid and Shafiul Islam, who were dropped out of the New Zealand series due to their injuries in BPL. This time Shafiul Islam ensured his place but Shahid failed to regain his place in the preliminary squad.
