Seminar on Tomorrow’s Economy held at EWU
The Department of Economics and the Bangladesh Youth Economist Association jointly organised a seminar on ‘Tomorrow’s Economy: Bangladesh Perspective’ at East West University (EWU) at Aftabnagar in the capital on Saturday, says a press release.  
Prominent Economist Dr Mohammed Farashuddin, chairperson, Board of Trustees, EWU and former governor of Bangladesh Bank presented the Keynote paper on this issue. Dr Toufic Ahmed Choudhury, director general, Bangladesh Institute of Bank Management (BIBM), was the discussant of the session.  Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, chairman, Palli-Karma-Sahayak Foundation graced, was the chief guest while Prof MM Shahidul Hassan, vice-chancellor, EWU, was the special guest of the seminar.  Badrul Munir, president, Bangladesh Youth Economist Association, was the chair of the programme.  Dr Syed Basher, chairman, Department of Economics, EWU, has given the vote of thanks on this occasion. A large number of economists and students from Economics department were also present at the seminar.          

RUET publishes extended merit list of first year honours course
RAJSHAHI: The Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) authority has published the extended merit list for the first year honours course in BSc (engineering) under the academic sessions of 2016-17 to fulfill the 228 vacant seats.
A press release signed by RUET admission committee president Prof Abdus Sobahan rewcently informed that candidates from merit list 2499 to 2698 of Group-1 and 129 to 156 of Architecture department are eligible for admission. Authority asked the selected candidates to complete the admission process from 9am to 12pm by January 21 through submitting the decided amount of fees. On the other hand, students from merit list 2699 to 3098 of Group-2 and 157 to 256 of Architecture department may get admitted subject to the vacancy of seats. Students from the latter merit list will get chance periodically if the seats lie vacant after the admission. Detailed information about the admission is available on the university website (www.ruet.ac.bd).

RU classes resume today 
RAJSHAHI: The academic activities including classes and examination of the Rajshahi University (RU) will resume today on the occasion of twelve-day winter vacation. RU public relation office sources said. Students have already started to return their respective dormitories on the campus. Mentionable, the winter vacation began on January 5.
