Robbers looted valuables, including cash money and gold ornaments, after hacking a sexagenarian man to death in the city’s West Bhashantek area of the capital yesterday night, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Mansur Ahmed, 66, a resident of the area.
Assistant commissioner (Pallabi Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Zakir Hossain said a gang of 6-7 bandits stormed into the house of Mansur at 294 West Bhashantek during Iftar hours. Mansur was outside the house at that time.
They held the house inmates hostage at gunpoint and looted 22 tolas of gold ornaments and Tk 1.50 lakh in cash from the house.
They chopped Mansur with sharp weapons as he tried to resist them upon his return, leaving him injured.
He was taken to a local hospital where doctors declared him dead around 8pm.
