AL, BNP men fake farmers� identity
SUPPLYING PADDY TO SUPPLY DEPOT

The leaders and activists of Kahaloo upazila unit Awami League (AL) and its front organisations in Bogra district have supplied paddy to state-owned Local Supply Depot (LSD) using fake documents violating government procurement rules.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kahaloo LSD Abdus Sobahan said political leaders along with other professionals have supplied around 378 metric tons (mts) of Boro paddy against the farmers cards issued by the government.
Kamal Uddin Kabiraj, vice-president of Kahaloo upazila unit AL, acknowledged the matter and said he has supplied 40mt paddy along with other party men according to a list.
The party men include Kamals brother Helal Uddin Kabiraj, upazila unit AL president, and Secretary Abdul Mannan.
Local Jubadal Joint Convener Zillur Rahaman, Tajnul Rahman, and school teacher Golam Yeasin also supplied around 11mt Boro paddy to the Kahaloo LSD with the help of AL leaders, Kamal said.
Besides, Kahaloo Municipality Vice-chairman Mamata Arju and some others also supplied paddy to the same LSD preparing fake farmers cards with the help of local AL leaders.
Birkedar union Krishak League leader MA Kader said a local AL leader supplied paddy to the LSD using the name of late farmer Sultan. Sultan died two years ago and his brother Harun-ur-Rashid is currently working at Rangpur Palli Bidyut Samity, but their names were used for supplying paddy to the government LSD, said Kader.
Sources at the district office of the food directorate said the government has decided to procure 2800mt paddy from the district this season but the target is yet to be fulfilled.
