Newly appointed LGRD and cooperatives minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain took charge of the ministry yesterday after a meeting with his predecessor Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam.
Mosharraf went to Syed Ashraful Islam's Bailey Road residence before taking the charge of the ministry.
“We belong to the same party. He has an important role to play in the party. I will extend all the help to Hossain,” Syed Ashraful Islam, who lost the LGRD ministry last Thursday, told reporters following a 15-minute meeting with Khandker Mosharraf Hossain.
State minister for LGRD and cooperatives Mashiur Rahman Ranga was with Khandker Mosharraf Hossain when he entered the Secretariat office at 11:28am.
Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, who is also in charge of the expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry, became the LGRD and co-operatives minister after Syed Ashraful Islam was removed on Thursday following some charges levelled against him, including his absence from important meetings chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
When asked about his meeting with the former LGRD minister, Khandker Mosharraf Hossain said, “He was in charge of the ministry. He is the party's general secretary. I went to his residence for taking his permission to join the LGRD ministry. It’s our party-related matter.”
He also said there will be no problem in managing the two ministries. “I don’t have any demand for anything. I can work for 18 hours,” he added.
