Leaders of the Bangladesh Pilgrims and Hajj Welfare Council and the Hajj Umrah Agencies Welfare Association yesterday demanded the simultaneous launch of the pre-registration Hajj programme for pilgrims under government and non-government management.
On Sunday, the religious affairs minister, Principal Motiur Rahman, will inaugurate the pre-registration work for pilgrims under government management to perform Hajj this year.
“Around 90 per cent people perform Hajj under private management. So, it would create panic among the pilgrims if pre-registration activities do not begin at the same time,” Advocate Abdullah Al Naser, president of the Bangladesh Pilgrims and Hajj Welfare Council, said in a press release.
He requested the religious affairs minister and secretary to inaugurate the Hajj pre-registration process for pilgrims under public and private management on the same day. He also said that at least 40,000 pre-Hajj registered people had failed to perform Hajj last year.
Naser requested the religious affairs ministry to propose to the civil aviation ministry the introduction of a third carrier for Hajj pilgrims to ensure smooth pilgrimage.
Meanwhile, the Hajj Umrah Agencies Welfare Association, too, demanded the launch of pre-registration the same day.
“It's a continuous process in which people pre-register their names under public and private management at the same time,” the association's convener, Jamal Uddin Ahmed, said in a separate press release.
