Bodies of three capsize victims recovered
Jhalakati: The bodies of three people were found in the Bishkhali and Sugondha rivers in Sadar upazila on Tuesday morning, four days after they went missing following a boat capsize, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Razzak Mollik Raza, 32, of the district town, Taslim Uddn, 50, of Deuri village, and Alam Jomadder, 35, of Ponabalia village of Sadar upazila.
Abdul Halim, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, said a boat carrying 11 passengers capsized in the Sugondha river near the ferry ghat of the municipality area after being hit by a Khulna-bound steamer, leaving three passengers missing.Divers recovered the body of Raza from Manlisudar area in the Bishkhali river while the bodies of Taslim and Alam from College Kheyaghat area of the Sogondha river around 7am.
Man to die for killing wife

A court here yesterday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his wife at Najirpur village in Singair upazila in 2007.
The court also fined the convict Tk 20,000.
The condemned convict was identified as Alamgir Hossain, a resident of Kalidaspur village in Bagha upazila of Rajshahi district.
According to the prosecution, Mamtaz Begum, wife of Alamgir, was strangulated to death by her husband over a family feud on April 14, 2007.
Anesa Begum, mother of the deceased, filed a case with Singair Police Station on the following day.
Shah Alam Munsi, sub-inspector of the police station and also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a chargesheet against Alamgir.
After examining records and witnesses, Manikganj District and Session Judge Mizanur Rahman Khan handed down the verdict.
One killed by rivals
Shariatpur: A man was killed in a clash between two groups over establishing supremacy at Barokandi village in Jajira upazila yesterday morning, reports UNB.
The deceased was identified as Hossain Khan, 30, a resident of the village.
Nazrul Islma, officer-in-charge of Jajira Police Station, said the two groups, one led by former union parishad chairman Shafiq Khalifa and another by incumbent chairman Siraj Sarder, had been at loggerheads over establishing control over the area.
As a sequel to the enmity, supporters of both the groups locked in an altercation at about 7:00am.
Later, supporters of Siraj hurled crude bombs, leaving Hossain, supporter of Shafiq, dead on the spot.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
