Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) formally launched their players’ hunting programme from 14 age group stage as they have no such initiative before this stage though the board with the joint-venture of National Sports Council (NSC) recently started a carnival like programme for the U-12 level. But the initiative at school level across the country just began from this year.
The divisional round of the Young Tigers Under-14 national competition for the 2016-2017 season ended at sixteenth different venues of the seven divisions across the country this week.
BCB game development committee picked a group of 35-40 best possible players each from seven divisions with the help of their talent scouts (coaches) for the next national round of the competition.
The committee sketched out a comprehensive plan for the selected players before the outset of the national round, which will be commenced from February 3.
All the selected players will take part in a four-day-long selection camp at each division, from where the national coaches will pick 18 best players of the primary squad for each division. Therefore, they will participate in a 10-day-long skill camp.
After this skill camp, the coaches will finalise a 14-member divisional squad for the national round and the rest of the four will be remained ‘standby’.
A total of 10 teams including eight divisional teams, Dhaka Metro and Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) will take part in this round of the competition.
Rajshahi and Cox’s Bazar will host all the matches of the national round. Each match will be a two-day affair.
Age-group national selectors of the BCB will pick a total of 42 best possible players from the national round. These players, splitting into three groups, will take part in the U-14 Challenge Series-2017.
National coaches will witness the matches of the series, from where they will sort out a range of 18 to 24 players by whom the next Bangladesh Under-15 Cricket Team will be formed.
Gradually the players of the team will be promoted to Under-19 via Under-16 Under-17 and Under-18. The best players amongst them will represent Bangladesh in future.
