13 students, teachers injured in Barisal road mishap
At least 13 students and teachers of Alangkarkathi AR high School were injured in a road accident yesterday morning while they were going to study tour to Shat Gambus of Bagerhat.
They were admitted to Barisal Sher –e- Bangla Medical College Hospital. Of them condition of one is critical, said on duty doctor of the hospital. Related sources said when the one bus of them was crossing the Kawkhali area on Pirojpur-Khulna highway the bus driver lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree. About 60 were injured during the accident. Local people and fire service rushed to the spot and sent them to local hospital. Kawkhali upozila health complex authority forwarded 13 of them to Barisal for better treatment.
Certificate giving ceremony held
The certificate ceremony of the 3rd batch of the Enhanced Specialised Nurse Training Programme (ESNTP) was held at the Gulshan Clubin the capital on Monday, says a press release.
Prof Dr Abul Kalam Azad, Director General, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) attended the programme as chief guest and A K Shamsuddin Khan, chairman, A K Khan Healthcare Trust (AKKHT) chaired the meet. Prof Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, MP, Brig Gen Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Director, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), Prof Dr M A Khan, Departmental head, Department of Hematology & Bone Marrow Transplant, DMCH, Anne-Marie Barron PhD, RN, PMHCNS-BC, Associate Professor and Associate Dean, School of Nursing and Health Sciences, Simmons College, the faculty team from Massachusetts General Hospital and A K Khan Healthcare Trust were present and spoke on the occasion. The nurses receiving certificate were also present.
Seminar on land digitisation held
Speakers at a seminar in the capital on Monday underscored the need for land record digitisation across the country as it [the land record digitization] would ensure land right security and also reduce land record related cost drastically.
The Speakers said this while presenting a keynote paper on ‘Smart Intervention for 7th Plan Priorities’ at BRAC Centre in the capital.“The land record digitisation will advance the country toward more security of the land right and it will influence the growth rate of the country,” said Executive Director of BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) Sultan Hafiz Rahman while presenting his paper on land digitisation. BIGD, BRAC University and Copenhagen Consensus Center (CCC) jointly organised the seminar. As many as five papers on Impact of e-procurement on reducing corruption and promoting competition, Land digitization for smart governance, Justice at the village level: What is the smart policy? Strengthening UDCs for Accelerated Public Service Delivery, and RMG Palli and Factory Compliance were presented in the seminar by BIGD and CCC researchers.
106th birth anniversary of Justice Morshed today
The 106th birth anniversary of late chief justice Syed Mahbub Morshed will be observed in the capital today.
Justice Morshed, who passed away in 1979, will be remembered for many things, particularly his fearless independence on the bench and many landmark judgments, chiefly on constitutional issues. In this connection, a Qurankhwani and fathea will be held at late justice Murshed’s mazar at Banani and the Syed Mahbub Morshed Memorial Committee will place floral wreaths.
Gazipur chemical factory catches fire
A fire broke out at a chemical and coal factory in Taragach area of Gazipur city on Tuesday morning.
Akhteruzzaman, assistant director of Gazipur Fire Station, said the fire broke out at the factory around 7.30am. On information, two fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame around 8.15am. The cause of the fire as well as the losses could not be ascertained immediately.
