An elderly man was allegedly killed by two of his sons in Baharampur area of Rajshahi city on Monday following a family feud.
Abdul Sheikh, 70, a retired peon of Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Rajshahi, was declared dead at 12pm when he was taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, said Amanullah, OC of Rajpara Police Station.
Amanullah said the police arrested Abdul’s youngest son Shariful Islam Sharif, 35, after his second son Abu Bakkar Siddik Suruj filed a murder case against his two brothers with the police station. The eldest son Abu Taher Sujon went into hiding, said the OC.
Suruj said, at a stage of their family feud, Sujon and Sharif started beating their father and killed him by pressing a pillow on his face. He said Sujon and Sharif were quarrelling with him (Suruj) over an unpaid loan and attacked Abdul Sheikh when he took his side. He said Sharif borrowed Tk 4 lakh from him several years ago and did not pay off. He said a meeting over the issue at local ward councilor’s office was foiled on January 8.
The victim’s wife Achhia Sheikh said, Sujon and Sharif killed their father when he sat for taking his meal at 10:30am. The two brothers asked her to stay silent; otherwise, they threatened her of death. She alleged that the two brothers also beat her up.
