Local units of Bangladesh Awami League and its front organisations observed the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in a befitting manner IN Chittagong, Rajshahi and Rangpur cities yesterday.
In the programmes the leaders of Awami League (AL) called for realising the dream of Bangabandhu through building a 'Sonar Bangla' under leadership of his daughter and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
They made the call at several discussions in the cities in celebration of the 45th Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu. In Rajshahi, marking the day, leaders and activists of the party hoisted national and party flags atop the party office and garlanded the portraits of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and four other national leaders in the morning.
In the afternoon, they brought out a rally led by AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, President of Rajshahi City unit AL and paraded some of the city streets before being ended at the party office premises. They held a discussion meeting highlighting the life and works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his contribution to the nation’s War of Liberation.
However; improved food was served and warm clothes were distributed among the poor people of the city at the city party office.
Meanwhile Awami League Rajshahi district units also observed the day. Mark the day they placing of floral wreaths at the portraits of the great leader and through organising discussion at its Laxmipur party office.
On the other hand many social and cultural organisations organised various programmes. The programmes include: drawing competition, storytelling competition, speech competition and essay writing competition on Bangabandhu.
Meanwhile, Rajshahi University and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) observed the day through various programmes.
BSS adds from Rangpur: The district and city units of AL and its associate bodies chalked out elaborate day-long programmes marking the day. The programmes, included hoisting of the national and party flags at party office, placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, playing of Bangabandhu's Historic March 7 Speech, milad and doa mahfils and offering special munajat.
Acting President of district AL Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed addressed the post-rally discussion on Bangabandhu as the chief guest with President of city AL Shafiur Rahman Shafi in the chair. General Secretary of city AL Tushar Kanti Mandal, Vice-president of district AL Matiar Rahman, its Joint General Secretary Professor Mazed Ali Babul, Organising Secretary Motahar Hossain Mandal Mowla, among others, addressed the discussion moderated by Office Secretary of district AL Tauhidur Rahman Tutul.
The speakers paid rich tribute to Bangabandhu and vowed for building a peaceful, happy, prosperous and secular Bangladesh as dreamt by Father of the Nation to fulfill aspiration of the common people through making independence meaningful for them.
