Woman hacked to death by ‘husband’ in Ctg

A woman was hacked to death allegedly by her husband yesterday at Jaforabad of Boiltoli in Chittagong district.

The deceased was Shahin Akhter, 35, wife of Abu Tayub, 45, of Jaforabad village of Chandanish upazila.
Farid Uddin Khandaker, officer-in-charge (OC) of Chandanish Police Station, said Shahin Akhter and her husband locked into altercation around 12.30pm yesterday. At one stage Abu Tayub hacked his wife indiscriminately by a sharp machete and later tried to kill himself. Locals rushed the duo to a local hospital in critical condition where the on-duty doctor declared Shahin Akhter dead. Later, Tayub was sent to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) from Chandanish as his condition deteriorated, the OC said. Hamidur Rahman, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost, said Abu Tayub was admitted to the CMCH with several injury marks. He was kept under close observation.
