Gaibandha: Speakers at a function yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had taken up different programmes to build a happy and prosperous country in the spirit of the Liberation War, reports BSS.
"Following the RPO (Representation of People Order) Act, democratic rule of the party, women and youth leadership flourishing, mass-opinion survey and information-communication based party management, the
AL is marching the country towards desired development", they said.
They made the observations while addressing a press conference organised by Democracy International at Gaibandha Press Club of the town on Saturday with the financial support of USAID and UKAID.
Acting president of district AL Syed Shams-ul-Alam Hiru read out a written statement in this regard and said the recommendations of 350 leaders on different issues including election manifesto during the 10th parliamentary election, and election strategy were sent to the party's central office for its consideration. AL, district unit, was implementing the recommendations of the leaders and following it the party had completed the council in 549 words of 65 unions of the district so far to make the election process fully transparent and acceptable to all, he also said.
27 percent women had been included in the committee through council for their empowerment; he said adding that the 60 women who are the members of the committee were given basic training to build up their capacity and skill. General Secretary of district AL Abu Bakar Siddique, vice president Farhad Abdullah Harun Bablu, president of Sadar upazila AL Ranajit Bakshi Surjya, GS Shah Sarwar Kabir, acting president of Gaibandha Poura AL Abdur Rashid, GS Pearul Islam and AL leader Saiful Alam Saka were present during the press conference.
