A ten-day solo quilt exhibition titled ‘Colours in Quilt’ by artist Jahan Afroz is underway at the Gallery Twenty One in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. Dr Fakrul Alam, renowned academic, writer, and translator; Sultana Kamal, human rights activist; Shahid Kabir, renowned artist; and Ahmed Reza, Professor, Jahangirnagar University jointly inaugurated the exhibition on Friday on the gallery premises. The exhibition is curated by artist Syed Hasan Mahmud.
A brilliant watercolourist and a skilled potter and jeweler, Jahan Afroz, known to her family and friends as Ruba, has been making quilts as well. She is able to weave into her quilts splashes of vibrant colours, colours that mimic those in nature, especially those of the flora. In her words, “When I see fabrics, they become the finished product in my mind immediately. When making the quilt, I try to infuse in it the trees and flowers that surround me.”
“‘Nature’is my romantic space. All my works reveal both my mood and the changing seasons”, she says. Ruba creates and extracts colors, images, and lines in her journey to discover the ultimate truth and beauty.
The exhibition is open to all every day from 12pm to 8pm, until January 15.
