Blogger Rajib murder verdict any day

The High Court will deliver its verdict anytime on the death reference against two condemned convicts in the case over the murder of writer and blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider.

The HC bench comprising Justice Jahangir Hossain and Justice Md Jahangir Hossain yesterday kept the matter as CAV [Curia Advisari Vult, a Latin legal term meaning verdict would be delivered anytime] after completion of the hearing on the appeals and death references from the both sides.
Rajib Haider, 35, an activist of Shahbagh movement that campaigned for the trial and execution of the war criminals, was hacked to death by machete-wielding attackers, in the first of a string of killings– targeting secular writers– on 15 February, 2013. On December 31, 2015, the Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 in Dhaka handed down death sentences to two students of North South University and various terms of imprisonment to six others for killing Rajib Haider. 
The condemned convicts include North South University student Redwanul Azad Rana and Faisal bin Nayem alias Dwip.
Other six convicts included Md. Maksudul Hasan Anik, Mohammad Ehsan Reza Rumman, Mohammad Nayeem Shikder alias Erat, Nasir Imtiaz, Mufti Mohammad Jasim Uddin Rahamani, and Sadman Yeasir Mahmud.
Of them, Maksudul was sentenced to life while Mohammad Ehsan Reza Rumman, Mohammad Nayeem Shikder alias Erat and Nasir Imtiaz were jailed for 10 years each. The remaining two –Mufti Mohammad Jasim Uddin Rahamani and Sadman Yeasir Mahmud were given three years’ jail terms. Later, the lower court sent the death references to the HC and the chief justice gave direction to hold early hearing on the death references on special consideration.
