Besides Mahbub, Sabuj, Shishir and goalkeeper Biplob, there are no surprise when Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) announced a 28-member preliminary squad ahead of the World Hockey League Round-2.
Bangladesh will host the international hockey competition to be held in March in Dhaka from March 4 to 12. The four new faces in the main national side are experienced playing in the Under-18 national team while goalkeeper Abu Sayeed Nippon had a recall in the preliminary squad.
The Round-2 will be held in two groups involving eight teams. The champions and runners-up will qualify for Round-3.
Hosts Bangladesh, Fiji, Oman and Canada have been drawn in Group-A. The other four teams- Egypt, China, Republic of South Africa and Sri Lanka- have been placed in Geoup-B.
The 28-member preliminary squad is: M Zahid Hossain, Asim Gope, Abu Sayeed Nippon and Biplob (goalkeeper), Rezaul Karim, Farhad Ahmed, Mamunur Rahman, Mohammed Ashraful Islam, Khorshedur Rahman, Imran Hassan, Sarwar Hossain, Roman Sarkar, Nayeem Uddin, Kamruzzaman, Russel Mahmud Jimmy, Mainul Islam, Pushkar Kisha Mimu, Arshad Hossain, Mohammed Milon Hossain, Krishna Kumar Das, Taposh Barman, Deen Islam Emon, Hassan Jubaer Niloy, Fazle Hossain Rabbi, Mahbub, Sabuj, Shihsir , Rakin.
