RANGPUR: The present government has been providing assistance, fertilizers and other inputs to the farmers for producing quality and disease free jute seed to increase production of the golden fibre in the country, reports BSS. Experts said this at a ceremony organised by the Directorate of Jute at Mithapukur Upazila Jute Development Office here to distribute chemical fertilizers and pesticides among 250 trained farmers free of costs on Saturday afternoon.
The Directorate of Jute under the Ministry of Jute and Textiles distributed the seed under ‘Production of high yielding local variety jute, jute seed and improved retting technology project’ for increasing production of quality jute fibre.
Earlier, the Directorate of Jute provided necessary training to the jute seed recipient farmers on cultivation of jute and producing high quality jute seed using the latest technologies to meet local demand of the cash crop seed.
With Mithapukur Upazila Assistance Jute Develop-ment Officer Mahabbat Ali in the chair, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mamun-Ar-Rashid attended the ceremony as the chief guest.
District Jute Development Officer ATM Tayebur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Khorshed Alam, Upazila Agriculture Extension officer Md Sadekuzzaman and President of Upazila Jute Growers’ Association Mozaffar Hossain addressed as special guests.
Taking part in the discussion, Khorshed Alam suggested the farmers for adoption of the latest agriculture technologies to produce and use quality jute seed in getting maximum production of high yielding local variety jute with upgraded fibre quality.
ATM Tayebur Rahman discussed about importance of optimum use of fertilizers and pesticides in producing quality jute seed and adoption of the lowest-cost ribbon retting method to improve quality and grade of jute fibre to ensure higher market price.
