Gaibandha SP gets away with unconditional apology

BSS

The High Court yesterday let go Gaibandha superintendant of police (SP) Md Ashraful Islam with a caution as the latter sought unconditional apology for using the terms "Bengali Miscreants" in a report on the clash between Santal and police in the district, reports BSS. "Following the court's order, the SP appeared before it and sought unconditional apology for his choice of words in the report. Accepting his apology, the court warned him to be more alert in future and let him go," said deputy attorney general Motahar Hossain Saju. A High Court division bench comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath on January 4 summoned the SP as deputy commissioner of the district had already explained his position over the matter on December 12. On November 30, Gaibandha DC, SP and Rangpur Sugar Mill authorities submitted three separate reports to High Court over the November 6 clash, where three Saontals lost their lives.
