Mercury dips to 7.5 C in north

Special Correspondent

The northern parts of Bangladesh had their first taste of a mild cold wave, which brought the mercury down to 7.5 degrees Celsius early yesterday in Tetulia of Panchagarh and sent shivers across the rest of the country, particularly in Srimanagal, Rajshahi, Pabna, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Jessore and Chuadanga.
Chuadanga in the south-west recorded the day’s second lowest temperature—8.7 degrees Centigrade—followed by 8.8 degrees Celsius in north-eastern Srimangal, 9.1 degrees C at Dimla in Nilphamari, 9.5 degrees C in Rajarhat of Kurigram, 9.7 degrees C in Rajshahi and 10 degrees C in Jessore.
The mild cold wave may hang over the areas for a day or two and later transform into a higher extent of cold.
It has already spawned mild to thick fog elsewhere over the country, sources in the Met Office said.
