Woman found dead in Rajshahi
Police recovered the body of a housewife from her in-laws' house at Shahpur village in Rajshahi on Saturday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sumi Khatun, 24, wife of Mithun, a resident of Shahpur village. Family sources said Sumi, daughter of Asad of Horian village in Paba upazila, was married to Mithun, son of Majid, one and half months back. Few days after their marriage, Sumi came to her father's house following an altercation with her husband.
Later, she returned to her in-laws' house. She was found dead on Saturday afternoon suddenly, officer-in-charge of Matihar Police Station Humayan Kabir said quoting family sources. Police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
One killed in road mishap
A woman was killed and his husband injured as a bus hit their motorbike in the capital’s Jatrabari area on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Raida Akhter, 19, wife of Al Amin, of Debidwar upazila in Comilla district and a resident of Narayanganj. Sub-inspector Bacchu Miah, in-charge of DhakaMedicalCollege and Hospital (DMCH) police camp, said that when Al Amin along with his wife was coming to Dhaka in a motorbike a bus hit their motorbike around 11:30am. As Radia fell down from the bike a mini pick-up van ran over her, leaving her critically injured.
She was taken to DMCH where doctors declared her death. Injured Al Amin was admitted to the same hospital.
Two arrested over school student murder
Police arrested two students on Friday night on charges of killing a class-nine student of Milestone School and College from the capital's Uttara area.
"We arrested two students, Sadat, 15, a class-nine student of Milestone School and College and Nasir, 19, a class-11 student of a college, from Section-13 of Uttara for their suspected link to the killing of Adnan," inspector (investigation) Shah Alam of Uttara Pashchim Police Station told BSS.
Miscreants beat Adnan to death in front of House no-15, Road-17 and Sector-13 of Uttara on Friday evening. A murder case was lodxged to this end on Friday night.
16 spurious drug factories closed
The Directorate of Drug Administration has sealed off a total of 16 counterfeit drugs producing factories and seized a huge quantity of fake and unregistered drugs equivalent to Taka 16 crore last year.
The directorate and mobile courts realised over Taka 6 crore from the owners of the already closed down 16 factories and 20 pharmacies after it found them guilty of producing and selling spurious
and unregistered drugs, said an official of the directorate.
Over 2000 cases have so far been lodged and 52 persons have been sentenced to different jail terms to this end, the official said.
The drive against the spurious drugs will be intensified, and all possible measures will be taken to follow the approved the Drug Policy, he added.
