Dense fog partially paralysed the life in Barisal and its adjacent areas with massive disruption of water and road communications causing untold sufferings to thousands of passengers of the route in last two days.
Sources said heavy fog over the river routes in southern region including Barisal-Dhaka disrupted transportations for hours. Even some times it has been delayed 7 to 9 hours to reach destinations.
Nazmul Huda Mithu, deputy director, River Traffic and Management of Barisal port, said “Due to dense fog many vessels arrived the port after seven to nine hours of scheduled time.
Hundreds of passengers were stranded due to poor visibility caused by dense fog. Their sufferings are lot as they did not reach their destination due time, said Md. Mustafizur Rahman, port officer of the port. He said that masters of the river vessels said that fog remained deep at the shore and mid river. Almost all the scheduled water transports including triple deck launches reached Barisal port from Dhaka between 9:00-11:00 am delaying 5-7 hours than the scheduled time, he added.
Aftab Hossain, president Barisal Bus owners group, said night coaches from Dhaka and eastern part of Padma reached Barisal at late morning as ferry service on Mawa- Keurakandi and Paturia- Dauladia route disrupted due to dense fog.
