Professor Afzalur Rahman, a noted interventional cardiologist of the country, has been given the charge of the director (acting) of the National Institute of Cardiovascular and Diseases (NICVD), reports BSS.
Prior to his new assignment, he was the head of the Cardiovascular Department of the NICVD, the apex cardiovascular center of Bangladesh.
Prof Rahman, who has an over two-decade experience in cardiovascular treatment, has been promoted to the post of the director (acting) of the NICVD through a notification issued by the Ministry of Health on December 28 last. He replaced former NICVD Director Professor Abu Azam. Prof Rahman earlier served as the head of the Department of Cardiovascular at Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital.
He is now a visiting consultant of the Cardiovascular Department of the 250-bed Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital in Gazipur.
Prof Rahman is the elected president of Bangladesh Society of Cardiovascular Intervention (BSCI) and the chairman and course director of Bangladesh Intervention Therapeutics (BIT).
