Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the prime suspect in the sensational Urmi murder case from the capital's Bangshal area on Saturday, reports UNB.
The detectives also recovered a knife, which was used to kill Urmi, a mobile phone set and a tab, which were being used by Urmi. The arrestee was identified as Md Masud Rana.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Sunday, Joint Commissioner (DB) of DMP Abdul Baten said Urmi was Rana's aunt from his father's side. During preliminary interrogation, Rana has confessed that he was directly involved in the killing.
Rana, a Madrasa student, wanted some money from Urmi at her Suritola flat on November 5 last year. As she refused to give the money, Rana stabbed her to death, Joint Commissioner Baten said.
Meanwhile, replying to a question the Joint Commissioner (DB) said law enforcers have detected most of the accused and arrested them as well in the bloggers' murder cases, and have also recorded their confessional statements under Section 164 of the CrPC. About killings of USAID official Xulhaz Mannan and his friend Mahbub Tonoy, he said a sleeper cell of some Islamic militant group was involved in the killing. The cell would number not more than five, he said.
