Stocks gain ahead of Eid holiday

Key share price index at the country’s premier bourse, Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), crossed the 4600 points mark gaining three consecutive sessions while Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also witnessed gain yesterday, report agencies.
DSEX, the broader price index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), gained 15.28 points to at 4615.20 when the blue-chip DS30 and DSES were up 15.95 and 2.54 points to finish the session at 1811.20 and 1136.27 respectively.
The day's trade value was up by 16.03 per cent to Tk 553.75 crore, but the trade volume declined marginally to 12.35 crore shares.
Out of the traded 310 issues, 123 gained, 145 incurred loss and 42 remained static.
Analysing the day’s market situations, IDLC Finance said, “Broad index DSEX inched up 4600 points level after one month of correction, backed by earnings expectations and scrip-wise stories.”
“The index increased 15.3 points or 0.3 per cent higher to close at 4615.2 points. But, investors showed clear preference yesterday to blue chip scrips, as the blue chip index DS30 moved up by 16.0 points or 0.9 per cent,” the merchant bank also said.
The day’s top 10 gainers at the DSE were MBL 1st Mutual Fund, Aramit Cement, AIBL 1st Islamic Mutual Fund, Asian Tiger Sandhani Life Growth Fund, Saiham Cotton Mills, NCCBL Mutual Fund-1, ACI, EBL NRB Mutual Fund, Prime Finance First Mutual Fund, and Trust Bank 1st Mutual Fund.
The lagging sectors were textile and cement when the major losing issues were Hakkani Pulp, Rupali Life, Family Textile, ACI formula and Standard Ceramic.
ACI topped the turnover list followed by Lafarge Surma, GP, ACI Formula, Beximco Pharma and BEXIMCO.
Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed yesterday nearly 29 points to 8645.25 when trade value and volume was Tk 45.76 crore and 1.21 crore shares respectively.
Out of traded 246 issues, 117 declined, 94 gained and 35 remained unchanged.
