New gold medal introduced at DU
A new trust fund titled "Advocate Md Idris Memorial Gold Medal Trust Fund" has been introduced at the Department of Economics of Dhaka University (DU).
Chairman of the Department of International Business of Quinnipiac University, the USA, Professor Dr Mohammad Niamat Elahee handed over a cheque for Taka 6 lakh to DU Treasurer Prof Dr M Kamal Uddin today at the vice-chancellor's office to introduce the gold medal in memory of his father.
Vice-chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr A J M Shafiul Alam Bhuiyan, Chairperson of the Department of Economics Prof Dr Nazma Begum, Professor of the Department of History Dr Muntassir Uddin Khan Mamoon, former Chairman of the Department of Accounting and Information Systems Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Prof Dr Mahmuda Akter and Managing Director of Merit Trade International Ltd Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron were present, among others, on this occasion.
Out of the income of this donation, every year one meritorious student who will secure the first position in both BSS (Honours) and Masters final examinations from the Department of Economics of Dhaka University will be received the award.
Advocate M Idris was born on January 1, 1925 in Bhairab, Kishorganj. He obtained his Masters degree from the Department of Economics of Dhaka University in 1948. He died on March 7, 2000 in Dhaka.
DU, Robi Axiata sign MoU
All residential halls and students buses of Dhaka University (DU) will be brought under Wi-Fi facilities within next 15 months. Mobile phone operator Robi Axiata Limited will provide the Wi-Fi facilities which will enable the students of the country's premier university to connect internet free of cost, a DU press release said yesterday.
To this end, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Dhaka University (DU) and Robi Axiata Limited was signed on Saturday at the Business Studies Faculty conference room of the university. DU Treasurer Md Kamal Uddin and Chief Operating Officer of Robi Axiata Limited Mahtab Uddin Ahmed inked the MoU on behalf of their respective institution.
DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies Shibli Rubayat-Ul-Islam and other faculty members were present on this occasion.
The DU vice-chancellor thanked the Robi Axiata Limited authorities for signing the MoU and said students will enjoy e-library facilities at their own dormitories by this initiative.
He urged the students to make themselves as global standard graduates using the Wi-Fi facilities properly. "You will have to equip yourselves with moral values for achieving goals," he added.
Micro-controller workshop held at ULAB
The Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering (ETE) organised a
two-day workshop on micro-controller for the students at ETE and CSE laboratory on July 7 and 9, says a press release.
The workshop was conducted by Zamshed Iqbal Chowdhury, lecturer, Institute of Information Technology, Jahangirnagar University and Istiaque, lecturer, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology. Thirty pre-registered students from ETE department formed five groups and participated in the workshop.
The first day of the workshop ended with building Random Blinking of LED with microcontroller by the students. On the second day the students completed two experiments titled seven segment display and LCD interfacing using microcontroller.
