Jholmolia to be screened today

A documentary film Jholmolia-The Scared Water directed by Saiful Wadud Helal, has been selected for the screening in the month of December as the part of a yearlong film festival titled New Films, New Filmmakers. The film will be screened today at 7pm at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Segun Bagicha in the capital. Jholmolia-The Scared Water is an intimate observation and exploration of the life and living of people in a south west coastal village of Bangladesh over a six year period in the aftermath of a cyclone. There is a village in the coastal belt of southwest Bangladesh which has a pond named Jholmolia, the shimmering pond that adds sparkle to the life of its people. The film documents this pond and the people who live by this pond. The festival is being organised jointly by Moviyana Film Society and BSA for the third time.
The jury for the film festival selected seven films in two categories, among the submitted films from December 1 to 10. Among the films, six are short films and one is documentary film.
The selected short films The mechanic directed by Atanu Patwari, Pounopunik by Khandaker Sumon, Baka Haowa by Enamul Haque Khan, Taiyab Akander Maa by Alamgir Malek and Javed Patwari, Neera by Arnab Hasnat and Ghur Pathe by Adil Khan will be screened at 3:30pm at the auditorium of National Art Plaza of BSA.
After the screening of the films, a new segment titled Cinema Five Alap, which has been added on to the year-long festival last month, will be held today at 5:30pm.
With the subject Bangladesher Chalachitre Shabda Proyoger Neety O Soundarja, director-sound engineer Ratan Pal will attend the Cinema Five Alap as main discussant.
