Dhaka Division cantered to an innings and 78-run win over Barisal Division on the final day of the inconsequential sixth and final round in the Tier-1 match of the National Cricket League (NCL) at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium yesterday. Despite being earned the highest 17 points- three points more than Khulna Division- Dhaka Division could not lift the title. Before the outset of the sixth round, Dhaka had a deficit of seven points than Khulna. And so, Khulna clinched the title for the second time on the trot beating Dhaka Metro by a staggering of 398 runs with one day to spare.
Khulna finished the league with 58 points that came from two victories and four draws in six-match road string. Dhaka on the other hand chipped in with 54 points. At Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra, Rangpur Division drew the last round with Rajshahi Division and progressed to the Tier-1 at the cost of Dhaka Metro, who demoted to the Tier-2 after losing the last round games very shockingly to holders Khulna.
In other Tier-2 match between Chittagong Division and Sylhet Division finished with draw at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong.
Dhaka vs Barisal
Dhaka Division played a dominating fashion and created huge pressure on Barisal Division by declaring their first innings of 588 for six largely thanks to Saif Hassan (204) and Taibur Rahman Parvez (242). In its pursuits, Barisal were skittled out for paltry 189. Being fell follow-on, Barisal made a gritty resistance but they could not avert the innings defeat. Despite Shahriar Nafees’s century (104), Barisal Division managed to muster 321. Resuming the final day on 259-4, overnight batsman Sohag Gazi trapped lbw by Taibur Rahman to add just one runs with 16. After a few moments, Al-Amin also followed him having caught by Rony Talukdar off Nazmul Hossain. Salman Hossain struggled to avoid the innings defeat and smashed 46 off 42 with eight fours but finally they could not stop the inevitable by the failure of the tailenders as wickets were tumbling at the other ends. Taibur Rahman was named the player of the match for his all-rounder performance as he cracked 242 as well as two wickets. Rajshahi vs Rangpur Resuming the second innings on last day at 313-3, Rajshahi Division added only 90 runs at the cost of the remaining seven wickets and set a 243-run target for Rangpur. Myshukur Rahman slammed 160 for Rajshahi with the help of 16 fours and two sixes. In reply, Rangpur Division finished the day to put up 196 for two wickets on the board. After Jahid Javed (70), Mahmudul Hasan also struck half-century. Hasan clouted 54 off 85 with five fours and one sixes to be remained unbeaten. By drawing the match, Rangpur Division moved to the Tier-1 as they were clear adrift of Rajshahi Division prior to the start of the sixth round. Sylhet vs Chittagong Sylhet Division resumed their second innings on final day at 136-5 and added just 29 runs for the rest five wickets to set a healthy target of 400 runs for Chittagong. Sylhet piled on declared 555 for seven in first innings before making 165 in second innings. Chittagong in reply did not take any risk at derby to chase down the target and finished the day with 261-7. Sazzadul Haque top scored for the local side 54. Yasir Ali (41), Mohammad Saifuddin (41), Irfan Sukkur (39 and Nayeem Hasan (27) were the other contributors of Chittagong. Rahatul Ferdous picked up three and Abu Jayed Rahi snapped up two wickets for Sylhet. Although both teams clinched the identical 35 points, Sylhet Division finished third and Chittagong fourth on points table.
