Paceman Taskin Ahmed and wicketkeeper-batsman Nurul Hasan along with rookie pacer Shubhasis Roy were named in the 15-member Bangladesh squad for the opening Test match against the hosts New Zealand yesterday. The first Test of the two-match series will be held at the Basin Reserve in Wellington starting on January 12.
Taskin, a regular member of the one day and T20 Bangladesh side, has not played any Test yet. The 21-year-old pacer already played 23 one day internationals along with 13 T20Is after stepping into international arena in 2014. Considering his prolong cricketer career, he has been wittingly derived of longer version so long. This time his dream to wear white dress for Bangladesh may come true in New Zealand.
Nurul Hasan got his first call in Test against England at home turf but he could not play that time. Although Mustafizur Rahman featured in one day and T20 against the Black Caps staging a comeback to international games following his five-month- long rehab period after the surgery on injured left shoulder, he was rested from the first Test as selectors and team management are reluctant to overstrain him.  
Wicketkeeper-batsman Mushfiqur Rahim will return with Test after recuperating fully from hamstring injury. Bangladesh Test skipper sustained injury during the first one-day international at Heglay Oval in Christchurch on December 26. Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar and fast bowler Rubel Hossain came back after a long lull. Last time Soumya played against India and Rubel against Pakistan in 2015.
Bangladesh already played 11 Tests against New Zealanders but yet to win any of it. Of them, they lost eight and drew three Tests in between 2001-13. On the current New Zealand tour, Bangladesh are yet to win a match having lost the one-day international series by 3-0 and trail 2-0 in three-match Twenty20 international series.
They will next face-off with two-match Test series. The second and last Test will be played at the Heglay Oval in Christchurch on January 20.
