2 killed in Gazipur, Moulvibazar ‘gunfights’

Two people were killed in separate incidents of “gunfights” with the law enforcers in Gazipur and Moulvibazar in last two days yesterday, reports UNB. In Gazipur: A suspected cattle thief was killed and three others injured in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Majlishpur in the city early yesterday. The identity of the deceased could not be known yet.
Tipped off that a group of thieves were passing the area with cattle stolen by a truck from Rajendrapur area, a team of RAB-1 from Porabari camp chased a truck in the early hours on Thursday.
At one stage, when the truck reached Majlishpur, the thieves opened fire at the Rab members, prompting the elite force to fire back, leaving four thieves injured with bullets.
The unidentified victim of the reported gunfight died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 10:40 am, said Bacchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police camp. In Moulvibazar: An alleged Yaba trader was killed in 'police firing' during a clash between police and drug traders in Berirpar area of the district town on Wednesday night.The deceased was identified as Ruhel Ahmed.
Mohammad Shah Jalal, superintendent of Police, said tipped off a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 11.30pm.
Sensing the presence of police, three Yaba traders, including Ruhel, attacked the policemen with sharp weapons to avoid arrest, leaving sub-inspector Abdul Malik and constable Bazlul Karim of Moulvibazar Model Police Station critically injured. At one stage, police opened fire on them that left Ruhel bullet injured.
Later, he was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
