Discussion on Shawkat Osman’s birth centenary
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith on Wednesday said that in true sense of term litterateur Shawkat Osman was a rebel and revolutionary.
"Shawkat Osman was vocal against all sorts of injustice in the society and created opinion against those," he told the birth centenary celebration function of Shawkat Osman at Abdul Karim Shaittabisharad auditorium at Bangla Academy in the capital. Bangla Academy and Shawkat Osman Birth Centenary Celebration National Committee jointly arranged the programme at Abdul Karim Shaittabisharad auditorium at Bangla Academy here. Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzman Noor, MP, and Cultural Affairs Secretary Begum Aktari Momotaj attended it as special guests with President of Bangla Academy Professor Dr Anisuzzaman in the chair.
BARD Bill 2016 discussed
The parliamentary standing committee on the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Cooperatives yesterday held a detailed discussion on the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) Bill, 2016.
It has suggested placing the bill in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) with amendment and addition after through scrutiny by authorities concerned. The decision came at the 15th meeting of the committee held at the JS Bhaban in the capital with its Chairman Abul Hasnat Abdullah in the chair, Among others, committee members LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Khandker Mosharraf Hossain, State Minister Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Alhaz Advocate Rahmat Ali, Fazle Hossain Badsha, and KM Selim Osman attended the meeting.
Another modern public toilet opened in city
WaterAid Bangladesh in association with Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) yesterday launched another modern public toilet at Muktangon Park in the capital.
Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation Mohammad Sayeed Khokon inaugurated this modern sanitation facility funded by H&M Foundation, said a press release. DSCC counselor, ward- 13 Mostoba Zaman Popi, counselor, ward- 13, 19 and 20 Syeda Roksana Islam Chamely and M Liakath Ali, Director- Programmes and Policy Advocacy, WaterAid Bangladesh were also present at the occasion. Sayeed Khokon said, "We have taken a project to build 100 public toilets. Several of those will be built in association with WaterAid." He hoped this toilet will meet the necessity of public toilets at Gulistan region.
6 shops fined for selling adulterated food
Armed Police Battalion (APBN) has expedited drives against sale of adulterated food and expired consumer items and fined owners of six shops Tk 3.41 lakh in the metropolis.
APBN in cooperation with a team of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) conducted drives in different areas including Mohakhali and Sonargaon, Janopad, Uttara area in the capital. A team of APBN-5 led by assistant police super M Saidur Rahman, DNCRP Assistant Director Abdul Majid and Uttar City Corporation magistrate Mohammad Sajid Anwar conducted the drives and fined six restaurants' on charges of possessing and selling substandard, unhygienic and date expired items.
