Four people were killed as a truck plunged into a roadside ditch in Baghia area of Gazipur city early on Thursday.
The deceased were identified as the truck driver, Sohel Mia, 29, son of Alek Mia of Baghia area, Shree Sujon Rai, 23, son of Shree Horesh Chondra Rai of Bangdubi village under Baderganj upazila in Rangpur district, Shree Dilip Roy, 22, son of Shree Olin Roy, and Shree Kajol Roy, 24, son of Shree Rakhal Roy of the same area. Locals said the truck plunged into a roadside ditch when its driver lost his control over the steering while giving side to a human hauler in Baghia area at around 3am on Thursday, leaving three workers of the truck dead on the spot and injured the truck driver . Locals rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and recovered the body from the ditch and sent the critically injured driver to Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital where the duty doctor declared him dead.
Sujon’s uncle Shree Shubash Roy said “Sujon, Horesh and Dilip have been working as a labourers at Korom Molla Brick in the area. The accident took place while they were returning from Kaliakoir area to the brickfield.” Duty doctor of Gazipur Shahid Taz Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital Rashedul Islam said “The truck driver died before he was taken to the hospital .
