Agreement signed to develop HSR economic belts

On December 27, 2016, Shanghai, Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou and Yunnan signed a cooperation framework agreement in Kunming, vowing to jointly establish the Shanghai-Guizhou-Yunnan and Guangdong-Guangxi-Yunnan high-speed railway (HSR) economic belts.

Under the agreement, the five provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities will take advantage of new high-speed railways to develop a transportation network integrating rail, road, aviation, water and other modes of transport. The agreement gives priority to the industries of tourism and culture, complementary industrial cooperation, poverty alleviation through development, joint ecological protection and further opening up to the outside world.
