The Shanghai-Kunming high-speed rail went into operation on December 28, 2016. The passenger-dedicated railway line is China’s longest west-east railroad, and strings together Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Hunan, Guizhou and Yunnan. Riding along the railway line, you can disembark at any station to enjoy beautiful scenery and delicious local delicacies. You can smell flowers in Kunming, view Huangguoshu Waterfall in Guizhou, go boating on West Lake in Hangzhou, taste pocket-shaped red carp by Poyang Lake in Jiangxi and shop till you drop in Shanghai. You might as well join us in a tour of these places by the Shanghai-Kunming high-speed rail!
Yunnan
Yunnan, nicknamed ‘South of the Clouds’, is world-famous for its natural beauty, abundant resources and amazing cultures. This colourful and mysterious land is home to misty mountains, torrential rivers, blooming flowers and friendly people.
The provincial capital of Kunming features mild weather throughout the year. And Dianchi Lake is often called ‘The Pearl of the Plateau’. The lake attracts thousands of migrating black-headed gulls every winter.
The Stone Forest Scenic Area in Shilin Yi Autonomous County is a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Karst rock landforms, dating back to the Paleozoic era, are the oldest, most varied and most unique in the world, thus making the Stone Forest Scenic Area one of the world’s top natural wonders.
Guizhou
In Guizhou, a land of graceful rivers and marvellous mountains, Huangguoshu Waterfall is a must-see attraction. Located near Anshun, a station on the newly opened Shanghai-Kunming high-speed railway, the waterfall is known for its immense size. The majestic waterfall is a typical Karst landform that has been formed due to water erosion.
Qingyan Ancient Town, one of Guizhou’s four ancient towns, is located in the southern suburbs of Guiyang. The ancient buildings, dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties, feature sophisticated designs and exquisite craftsmanship.
Hunan
Hunan province, also referred to as Sanxiang, is teeming with places of historic interest. Yuelu Mountain, located in the provincial capital of Changsha, is a national key scenic area, as well as one of China’s four maple leaf viewing spots in autumn.
Jiangxi
The Pavilion of Prince Teng, one of the three most famous pavilions south of the Yangtze River, is located in Nanchang, capital city of Jiangxi province. It has been destroyed and rebuilt 28 times. The present Pavilion of Prince Teng is even more towering and majestic than when it was first built 1,300 years ago. It stands lofty and casts a beautiful reflection in the water below.
Zhejiang
Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, is known as a paradise on earth. You can stroll by misty West Lake, sample aromatic Longjing tea and enjoy graceful ornamental ponds. West Lake is surrounded by mountains on three sides, and the famous poet Su Shi once wrote during the Song dynasty(960-1279), “West Lake looks like a fair lady at her best, whether she is richly adorned or plainly dressed.”
Shanghai
Your first stop in Shanghai should be The Bund, where you can see both historic Western and Chinese buildings. Visitors cannot miss this beautiful view at night.
The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, an iconic cultural structure in Shanghai, is located in Lujiazui, Pudong New Area. It is about 468 metres in height. Construction on the building began in July 1991 and the TV tower was put into use in May 1995.
