Bangladesh football saw an unprecedented incident in its history when Soccer Club Feni and Uttar Baridhara, two teams of Bangladesh Professional Football League refused to play their play off matches.
According to by laws of BFF, two teams were needed to play offs to overcome the relegation after earning equal number of points in the Jb Bangladesh Premier Football League.
Soccer Club and Uttar Baridhara, both the sides finished their 22 matches obtaining 18 points each.
According to by laws of the BFF 17.2.2 (i), if two teams earn as many points after playing all their matches, the teams will have to play two ‘play off’ matches.
BFF scheduled the play off matches for January 4 and Januray 7 but none of the team bother to play it as none of the teams did not appear at Bangabandhu National Stadium. Abdur Rahim, the deputy chairman of the League Committee of the BFF, who was present at ground yesterday, when talking with the reporters at the Bangabandhu Stadium, said, “It is really an “unprecedented incident in the Bangladesh football.”
Rahim also told the reporters that in this circumstances, according to by laws all the points of both teams would be cancelled and would be scratched from the league.
