2 killed in Chandpur ‘gunfight’

Two alleged robbers were killed in a gunfight with police at Dubgi village in Matlab (North) upazila of Chandpur district early Wednesday, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Majid, 47, a resident of Chandpur district, and Habu, 30, a resident of Laxmipur district.
Alamgir Hossain Majumder, officer-in-charge of Matlab (North) Police Station, said on a tip-off that a gang was preparing to commit robbery in the area, a team of police conducted a drive there around 3.30am.
Sensing danger, the gang members opened fire at the law enforcers, prompting a retaliation that triggered a gunfight. Majid and Habu were caught in the line of fire and seriously injured while other members of the gang managed to flee from the scene.The duo were rushed to Matlab (North) Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared them dead.
Police also recovered five firearms, four cartridges and some sharp weapons from the spot. The duo were wanted in 12 cases including for robbery, the OC added.
