Dumping work at fire-hit DNCC Market continues

Firefighters on Wednesday morning started the dumping works at the fire ravaged Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Market in the capitals Gulshan area, reports UNB.
However, the fire could not be doused completely and it will take more time to put out the flame, said Atikur Rahman, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) control room.
Some 20 units of the fire fighters have been working there to clean the market, Atikur added.
On Tuesday afternoon, firefighters tamed the fire that razed through the DNCC Market for over 15 hours. A total of 23 firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 5:45pm.
The fire originated from the DNCC kitchen market in Gulshan area of the city around 2:30am and it later engulfed the whole market, said Bhajon Kumar Sarker, a duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
A portion of the two-storey DNCC Market collapsed following the massive fire. The blaze also spread to another market adjacent to the DNCC market.
Several hundred shops were burnt down in the fire. It was not still clear what caused the fire.
Sources at the DNCC market managing committee said there are 605shops in two buildings of the market with one housing 371 and the other 234 shops.
Meanwhile, the building that has 371 shopscollapsed following the huge fire.
Meanwhile, the FSCD headquarters formed a five-member probe committee, headed by its deputy director (operation) Debashis Bhardan, investigate the incident.
