The Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) launched three mobile apps-based services to help farmers solve various problems they face during crops production, reports UNB.
Agricultural Minister Matia Chowdhury formally inaugurated the apps-based services at a function at AKM Gias Uddin Milky auditorium of Khamarbari, Farmgate, in the capital yesterday.
The DAE with support from the Access to Information (a2i) Programme of Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) developed three mobile phone applications Krishaker Digital Tikana, Krishaker Janala and Balaynashok Nirdeshika.
According to DAE officials, Krishaker Digital Tikana apps was developed incorporating various technology and necessary information of agriculture production. Krishaker Janala application will be used to detect diseases as images of all crops diseases will be found in the apps.
Balaynashok Nirdeshika is a store home of pesticides. Farmers will be able to know which pesticide is suitable to control pest attack.
DAE director general Md Hamidur Rahman said the innovation of mobile phone applications-based services will be reached to the doorsteps of farmers soon.
The services of three applications will be reached to framers through about 15,000 field level officials of the DAE within February next, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said arable land declines nowadays keeping pace with the increase of the country’s population, but agricultural production has increased due to innovation in the agriculture sector.
She said Bangladesh now ranks fourth in world’s rice production while third in vegetable production as farmers have been using various innovative technologies.
Agriculture secretary Mohammad Moinuddin Abdullah, PMO director general Shaikh Yusuf Harun and a2i programme policy adviser Anir Chowdhury, among others, spoke at the function.
