LLCRC starts its journey at RU
SAVAR: With some senior professors of different departments a new organisation named Language-Literature-Cultural Research Centre (LLCRC) has started its journey on the Rajshahi University (RU) campus yesterday, a press release said.
A formal meeting was held at the Ismail Hossain Siraji Arts building where some two hundred professors formed an eleven-member committee for a year to run the organisation. Prof PM Shafiqul Islam of Bengali Literature Department and Prof Abul Hasan Chowdhury of Folklore Department made the president and general secretary respectively. LLCRC will organise two international seminars, ten national seminars and publish one research paper in every year, the press release also added.
Gono Bishwabidyalay Trustee Board meets
The 38th meeting of the Gono Bishwabidyalay (GB) Trustee Board was held on Tuesday at the conference room of Gonoshasthaya Nagar Hospital, Dhanmondi, in the capital.
Taherunnesa Abdullah, chairman, Gono Bishwabidyalay Trustee Board presided over the meeting. The members of trustee board Prof Amirul Islam Chowdhury, Dr Salehuddin Ahmed, Justice Abdur Rouf, Oaliul Islam, Hosne Ara Shahed, Prof Altafunnesa, Prof Abul Qasem Chowdhury, Doctor Zafrullah Chowdhury, University Vice Chancellor Prof Doctor Md Delwar Hossain (Acting) and Registrar Md Delowar Hossain were present during the meeting. Minutes and progress report of the 37th GB Trust meeting along with others important issue of University were discussed and approved by the trustee board.
RU winter vacation begins today
RAJSHAHI: A 15-day winter vacation of Rajshahi University (RU) will begin from today (Thursday), a RU press release said yesetrday.
However, the students' dormitories will remain open for the students according to the provost council decision. All scheduled classes and examinations will resume on January 16. RU offices will remain closed from January 7 to 12 but the emergency divisions will be functioning as usual, the release added.
Anti-drug campaign at IU Jan 8
KUSHTIA: An anti-drug campaign is going to be held at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia on January 8.
Varsity sources said Coalition against Tobacco, Tracks and Terrorism (CATTT) and Islamic University (IU) are jointly organising the campaign. The day-long campaign included procession, discussion and cultural ceremony on the university campus. State Minister of Finance and Planning, MA Mannan is expected to attend the campaign as chief guest while IU Vice-chancellor Prof M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari will preside over the programme.
IU pro-vice chancellor Prof M Shahinoor Rahman, its treasurer Prof M Selim Toha and additional director of RAB Abdul Jalil Mandol are expected to attend the programme as special guests. While speaking in this connection VC Professor Dr M Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari said the campus will be kept free from drugs, militancy and terrorism at any cost.
