Non-government teachers demand new pay scale

Teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions formed a human chain and held discussion meeting in Chapainawabganj yesterday demanding immediate declaration of their inclusion in the new national pay scale, which is effective from July 1 this year.
The human chain was held in front of the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Abdul Mannan Sentu Market Square in the town under the banner of  Chapainawabganj district unit of Bangladesh College University Teachers Association at 10:30 am.
Central organising secretary of Bangladesh College University Teachers; Association (BCUTA) Akmal Hossain, convener of Chapainawabganj district unit of BCUTA Shamim Ahmed, general secretary of Chapainawabganj Zila College Shikkhak Karmochari Kallyan Samity, Principal Anwarul Islam, Sadequl Islam and Waliul Azim spoke on the occasion.
Later, they also held a discussion meeting at Chapainawabganj Club.
The speakers said the government has declared a new pay scale for the government employees and the implementation will be effective from July 1 last. But the fate of teachers and employees of non-government educational institutions, who are drawing salary under Monthly Pay Order (MPO) system and enjoying government pay scale earlier, has become uncertain as there is no clear indication in the new pay scale.
If the government implements the new pay scale without their inclusion the non-government teachers will take to street, the warned.
They also threatened to launch tougher movement like continuous work abstention after the Eid until their demand is fulfilled.
