Neither Mashrafe Bin Mortaza nor Shakib Al Hasan touched the landmark of the 200-wicket club in one day international cricket as of now after playing two matches against South Africa.
At Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mashrafe finished his figure with 1-17 in five overs, while Shakib remained wicketless in 10 overs like first match. Mashrafe also took one wicket in the first match and now he needs just one wicket to enter the 200-wicket club, while Shakib needs two.
The last match of the ODI series- will be held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium on July 15 which will decide whether those two could reach the landmark.
Both Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan had an equal opportunity to earn the feat before the second match of the three-match ODI series as both of whom were two wickets each away from the milestone.
Before the series against South Africa, Bangladesh pace spearhead was required three wickets, while the country’s premier all-rounder was shy of just two wickets to join the 200-wicket club though they had also chances to touch the accomplishment in the last home series against India but two of them showcased a lackluster performance with the cherry.
The veteran spinner scalped just three wickets from three-match ODI series, of which he took two wickets in the opener and one in the third and last match of the ODI series against India. The left-hander went wicketless in the second match, in where Tigers completed their series victory.
Mashrafe, on the other hand, picked up four wickets from three-match outings, of which he claimed one in the first match and three in the third match. Like Shakib, Mashrafe remained wicketless in the important second match for Bangladesh.
Left arm spinner Abdur Razzak remains the only bowler of Bangladesh to have 200 wickets to his name. Razzak claimed 207 wickets so far in 153 matches with the best of 4-16.
His fellow left-arm spinner Shakib also played 155 matches to take 198 wicket while Mashrafe played 152 matches to grab 198 wickets with the best figure of 6-26.
Since Mashrafe indicated the wicket will be conducive to the spinners, Shakib has the great chance to join the club earlier that Mashrafe.
