Nasir Hossain showed a glimpse of his all-round prowess, making a breakthrough for the side in crucial period a habit. When all the bowlers got it tough to fight the might of South Africa, Nasir made it surprisingly easy in bowling as the visiting batsmen were never comfortable to play against him since the Twenty20 series.
He wrecked the South African batting in the first Twenty20 match by claiming two for 26 as the visitors were restricted to 148 for four to give Bangladesh an opportunity to win the match. The batsmen’s inept batting however caused the team’s massive 52 runs defeat after they were shot out for just 96 runs.
Nasir then took one for 37 in the second T20 international and continued his bowling form in the first one-day international also when the other bowlers struggled to get the wickets. But Nasir bloomed with full glory in the second match to push South Africa in the back foot.
Arguably the crucial wicket was Faf Du Plessis who enjoyed a good run of form right from the start of the tour. The visitors put the shed on their traditional vulnerability against spin, largely for Du Plessis who was outstanding against spinners to keep the side unscathed.
Du Plessis brought his Chennai Super Kings experience in IPL to good effect to resist the anomalies. As South Africa lost wickets at regular intervals, Plessis was there to give them a shadow. He was playing with utmost confidence, dealing spinners with right technical acumen as well as ticked the scoreboard at considerable pace.
Bangladesh were never in comfort zone despite taking wickets at the other end because they knew the man-in-form is there to inflict a damage at any point of the game. But Nasir Hossain thought differently, and playing with the patience of Du plessis. As Plessis was stubborn, he lured him by giving some flighted delivery and invited him to charge him. Du Plessis still showed an utmost patience but Nasir stuck to his plan.
At one phase, Plessis was allured and Nasir was successful to take him out and wiped out a big obstacle. Before taking Plessis, he removed big hitter Rille Rossouw with a straighter delivery to stem the run flow of South Africa.
Nasir eventually ended with a magnificent figure of three for 26 which was successful bowling for Bangladesh. Mustafizur Rahman also scalped three but conceded 38 runs.
The gradual improvement of his bowling however indicated that another effective all-rounder after Shakib Al Hasan is in the making for Bangladesh.
