National Textbook Festival today
National Curriculum and Textbook Board will stage the “National Textbook Festival” on January 1 across the country when students of all primary schools, ibtedayi madrasas, secondary schools, dakhil madrasas and technical education institutes will get new textbook free of cost. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will inaugurate the central programme of the “National Textbook Festival-2017” at Azimpur Government Girls School and College in the capital at 9.30 am on January 1. 
  Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Division Md Sohrab Hossain, Secretary of Technical and Madrasa Education Division Md Alamgir and Chairman of National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) Prof Narayan Chandra Saha will also be present at the function.

First phase of Biswa Ijtema begins Jan 13
The first phase of the Biswa Ijtema, the second Muslim congregation after the holy Hajj, will begin on January 13 at the bank of the Turag River of Tongi in Gazipur.
All the preparation ahead of the Biswa Ijtema is going on full swing as the Biswa Tablig Jammat is organising 52nd congregation. “About 70 per cent development works of the Ijtema field have been completed till Thursday evening,” said Mawlana M Gias Uddin, a spokesman of the Ijtema preparation committee. “We hope that cent per cent works including power, gas, water, toilets, bathrooms and loudspeaker installation in the Ijtema ground would be completed within next week,” he said. The first phase of the Biswa Ijtema will begin on January 13 and it will conclude on January 15 through the ‘Akheri Munajat’.

New road in Rajshahi city
A new road will be constructed in Rajshahi city in order to make it free from traffic congestion besides smooth pedestrian movement.
The 2.5-kilometer four-lane road from Kolpona crossing to Talaimary crossing will be constructed with an estimated cost of around Taka 127.50 crore. Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) will implement the project having provision of drain and footpath on both sides of the road. RCC authority inaugurated the construction works at a simple function held at Ramchandrapur area yesterday. Former Mayor of RCC AHM Khairuzzaman Liton addressed the ceremony as the chief guest with sitting acting mayor Nizam-ul Azim in the chair.

AGM of Ctg press club held
Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin on Friday said in Chittagong that compared to any other professionals journalists have been playing a unique role in development of the country.
He urged the journalists to work with objectivity and accuracy for building a peaceful society and not to publish any news item that goes against the interests of the nation. AJM Nasir Uddin said this while inaugurating the annual general meeting of Chittagong Press Club (CPC). The mayor said the media can reduce any conflicts in the country through presenting accurate information, ideas and comments. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest Commodore AW Chowdhury said journalism has more responsibilities in this regard and journalists should work sincerely to uphold their professional dignity. 

Brilliant Result of Mohanagar Ideal School and College
Students from Mohanagar Ideal School and College at Mugdapara in capital have done a brilliant job both in Junior School Certificate (JSC) and Primary Education certificate (PEC) examinations this year, says a press release. 
The pass rate is 100 per cent. This year 55 students from JSC examinations out of 164 and 73 students from PEC out of 165 have got GPA-5. Founder Chairman Md Sekendar Hossain and Education Adviser Lieutenant Colonel Mostaq Ahmed (Retd) gave special thanks to all. They also said that the teachers, students and guardians all should be conscious so that the achievement of this institution would develop day by day.
