‘Assault’ on Rly officials in Rangpur

Communication disrupted

Rail communication between Rangpur and elsewhere of the country was suspended as five officials, including Deputy Commercial Manager of Bangladesh Railway, Western Zone, were assaulted allegedly by Tusher Kanti Mondol, Secretary of  Awami League of the city unit and his associates yesterday around 11-30 am at Rangpur Railway Station.

Soon after the incident, the officials and employees went on strike for indefinite period in protest against assault and informed to different railway stations regarding the matter. Adjacent Railway Stations also halted the trains those were ready to move to their destinations that caused immense sufferings to the passengers. 
Seikh Abdur Jabber, railway super, Rangpur Railway Station told The Independent “Today (Saturday) a Railway team led by Mihir Kanti Ghose, Chief Commercial Manager reached Rangpur to met with the railway officials to develop the railway services in this zone. During this time Tusher Kanti Mondol, secretary, city Awami League along with his associates entered the room of the Station Super demanding additional compartment which running at present from Rangpur to Dhaka. He also demanded another Mail Train from Rangpur to Dhaka”.
Mihir Kanti Ghose, deputy commercial manager said “It is not possible to implement it but we will send your proposal to higher authorities”.  At one stage Tusher Kanti and his associates used abusive language to him and allegedly started to beat them up.
The team suspended the meeting and left the scene immediately. Seikh Abdul Jabber informed the journalists process is going on to file a case against Tusher and his associates who were involved in it.
While visiting the station this correspondent found that found a number of passengers from different destinations have been waiting there for train. When contacted Tusher Kanti Mondol, Secretary, City Awami League in this regard said “Allegation against me totally baseless and false”. I went there to request them to introduce an another train for Rangpur.
