5 die in Shitalakhya boat capsize

The death toll from Friday’s boat capsize in the Shitalakhya River in Kapasia upazila rose to five with the recovery of three more bodies from the river early yesterday, reports UNB.
 The deceased are identified as Tajim Khan, 14, a resident of Paratola area, Atiq, 26, a resident of Madhyanagar area, Kohinur Begum, 25, wife of Nur Mohammad, a resident of Alinagar village, Qaiyum, 17, a resident of Talajhula village, and Anu Miah, a resident of Lakhpur village in Shibganj upazila of Narsingdi district.
Dulal Miah, sub-inspector of Kapasia Police Station, said the Taraganj bound-boat from Shibpur of Narsingdi district sank in the river near Taraganj Bazar around 6:30 pm due to overloading.  All the passengers, except 10-12, managed to swim ashore. Police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of Atiq, Tajim and Kohinur at night.
Later, a team of divers of Tongi and Dhaka fire stations started a rescue operation around 11.30am yesterday.
The team retrieved two more bodies after 12am and called off their operation around 1.30am.
