36 jailed for illegal sand lifting

A mobile court here yesterday sentenced 36 workers to 15 days’ imprisonment each on charge of lifting sand from a char illegally along the Padma River in Rajrajeshwar area of sadar upazila.
The mobile court, led by executive magistrate Abhis­hek Das, and a patrol team of Coast Guard from Chandpur Station conducted a drive in the area and arrested 36 workers while lifting sand from a char in the afternoon.
Later, the mobile court sentenced the workers to 15 days’ imprisonment each and sent to jail. It also seized two bulkheads worth Tk 50 lakh from the spot.
The arrestees hailed from different areas of Pabna district.
